Alternate Worlds

The fics here are a mixed bag. This is where I've put my full-scale alternate world series like 'Suncross' and 'Two Princes' (as opposed to simply alternate-history series like 'Reconstruction; it's a question of the magnitude of the changes, and whether you just jump off at some point in canon or reshape everything), but I've also added a still-nascent series, 'Erinyes', and a few one-shot fics that break so sharply with canon that this seemed to be the best place to list them.

Find a new world here you'd like to see me explore further? If so, let me know !--Alicia

Suncross

So many different ways that the past could have been different--Suncross explores one possible scenario. This is the most complicated what-if I've ever produced, and - in my opinion, at least - one of the most compelling. It was initially supposed to be a single, alternate-timeline story with the mainstream Scott crossing over and finding a very different world. As so many ideas before it, however, it sort of--ballooned. ;)--Alicia

This is truly a fascinating world. The character interaction, in particular, is fantastic. As I write this it occurs to me that Alicia hasn't visited it in quite sometime. Perhaps it is time for us all to remind her of it? Don't you think? :) ~JenMorrioghan

Ash And Shadow
(PG-13)
In a world where no one 'won' Inferno, a vastly altered Nathan fights alongside the remnants of the X-Men against Apocalypse and Madelyne Pryor, the Goblin Queen. Now, this is what's called going over the top with a What-If. ;) It's a blast to write, though, and has a great deal of potential for future stories.

Eden In Your Dreams
(PG-13)
Colossus dies in another battle with the forces of Limbo, and Cecilia, unable to save him, finds herself unable to sleep. Wandering in the garden dome, she encounters Cable, and they share a rare peaceful moment. This is one of the odder pairings I've ever written Cable into, and I've found along the way that I like Cecilia a great deal. She's got a very strong personality and is very dedicated... perhaps it's not such a surprise that she and Nathan get along so well in this series.

Two Princes

IRC chat is a wonderful thing, for a lot of reasons; the most wonderful, perhaps, being the ideas that are sparked by casual conversation. This series came from one such conversation - with Persephone, if I'm not mistaken - about what would have happened, after the Cyclops and Phoenix LS, if young Nate had taken his 'brother' along with him when he fled Apocalypse's palace. I think we can all agree that, at the very least, the future would have been a very different place.--Alicia

This is one of my favorites because it has the potential to completely rewrite so much of Marvel history. What Alicia has done with this concept is radical, yet still remains true to the characters. ~ JenMorrioghan

Two Princes
(PG)
After Slym and Redd vanish, a suddenly 'orphaned' Nathan decided to take Stryfe with him as he flees Apocalypse's palace. Well, it's a start, for these two. They've got a long way to go, that's for sure...;)

Island In A Sea Of Sand
(PG-13)
Nate and Stryfe hide out in the desert as the dog soldiers search for them. The two boys still don't know if they can trust each other, but when Nate falls ill, their uneasy understanding is put to the test. I really am beginning to adore these two; they're terribly cute, and the prospect of all the trouble they could get themselves into it just too exciting for words.

Erinyes: Hell Hath No Fury (with Diamonde)
(PG-13)
In a slightly different world, Natalie Dayspring leads the Clan Chosen against the Canaanites and Eris, her mortal enemy. Written for the Genderswap Challenge on OTL. The idea was to take one character - or in this case, two - and make them of the opposite gender, while leaving everyone else around them the same. With these two characters in particular, some very interesting dynamics can arise. Diamonde and I are planning lots more set in this universe.

Poenas
(PG-13)
Released by Apocalypse, a confused and tormented Caliban comes looking for the man who apparently 'abandoned' him to Ozymandias in the Morlock tunnels--Cable. Written in answer to the 'Kill Your Favorite Character' challenge. Oops--did I give too much away?

Shields
(PG-13)
Tragedy strikes, and Cable must say goodbye to an old friend. Written for the 'Not Enough Time To Say I Love You' challenge. Instead of choosing a romantic couple, I chose two friends who've had a very up and down relationship over the years (and yes, I know that's putting it mildly). I always got the impression that G.W. wouldn't have been so angry at Nathan if he hadn't cared about him very deeply, and vice versa.

Thunder Chasing The Wind
(PG-13)
In a future where the Sentinels have taken over, Cable rescues Storm from a prison camp. This was a story for a personal challenge Kaylee gave me, to write Storm and Cable together (since I so strongly disliked Marvel toying with that idea). Only it took on something of a life of its own, and turned into something about grief and loss and ghosts, until the original idea became only a side note.

Who Lives By The Sword
(PG-13)
Imprisoned and tortured, Cable is losing his mind, slipping farther and farther into hallucinations. A very experimental story, told mostly through a series of images, although if you look really hard you can discern a plot, the 'bad guy' and a more or less continuous series of events. One of my favorite of my short stories, although I think most people on OTL didn't know quite what to make of it.
